Unsung Hero

The lyric is the unsung hero of any great song. Amazing guitar solos or epic song intros always steal the show. Hotel California and Stairway to Heaven are two examples of epic song intros that anybody who is a fan of classic rock can hum or even play on their own guitar. But it is the lyric and the concept that is most important. They could have been singing about Motel 6 and Stairway to My Front Porch. How much meaning would that have? Would they have become huge classic rock epics? Not likely.

The art of the lyric has always taken a back seat to the music. One of the purposes of this blog is to celebrate the lyric. I have written lyrics since I was 10. Although I have not written a hit song, I still have learned a lot about the art and science of lyric writing. A second goal of LyricWiz is to discuss what I have learned and to share it with anybody who wants to listen. Bob Dylan is still striving to perfect his writing, even after all the phenomenal lyrics and success he has accomplished. He is currently writing some of the best lyrics he has ever written. Is there such a thing as the perfect lyric? Probably not, but the power and influence of the lyric is unquestionable. An additional goal is to present some of my original lyrics for your edification. Let me know if you like any of them. Also, I am always open to constructive criticism.

If you have any comments or questions, don't hesitate to send them to me. One thing that I have learned, especially as I have gotten older, is that listening is a far more important skill than talking. We have two ears and only one mouth and should keep our skill emphasis to that proportion.

LyricWiz has three main sections: The weekly topic, the new original lyric of the week, and the moldy oldie original lyric. If anybody is interested in using any of my lyrics to use in writing a song, you must first contact me and receive my written permission. None of my lyrics presented in this blog may be used by any person without my expressed written consent and mutually agreed financial consideration.

I hope you enjoy my blog.
